You can renew your residence permit for postgraduate studies or for a doctoral degree. The duration of the leave you will receive is increased by half of the total duration of the indicative study program of your School.
If you want to look for a job or set up a business after receiving your degree, you can obtain a residence permit (type "H.11") for this reason lasting one (1) year.
You can apply for a residence permit for work or start a business within a period of at least thirty (30) days before the expiration of your student residence permit by submitting the necessary supporting documents which, if they are not available before the expiration of your residence permit, you are given the opportunity to submit within a period of two (2) months.
The application for the renewal of a residence permit can be submitted on the website of the Ministry of Migration under the following category:
RENEWAL – RESIDENCE OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS OR HOLDERS OF NON-PUBLIC HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS FOR JOB SEEKING OR ENTREPRENEURSHIP (Law 5038/23)
The required supporting documents for the application are as follows:
1. A certified copy of a valid passport or travel document recognized by our country.
2. Residence Permit for studies (also holders of residence permit “H.7”, provided they have graduated from a higher education institution in the country).
3. Private health insurance policy from an insurance provider.
4. Evidence proving that the applicant has sufficient financial resources to cover living expenses. The required funds are equivalent to those examined during the initial application or renewal of the student residence permit.
5. Higher education diploma (bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree).
6. Administrative fee of 150 euros (issued online from e-paravolo- by choosing for Public Authority: Ministry of Migration Policy-Deposit Fee for Residence Permit and under code 2107).
After at least three (3) months from the issuance of the residence permit for work or setting up a business, you must prove to the competent agency that you have a real chance of being hired or setting up a business and that the job you are looking for or the business you are going to set up corresponds to the level of studies you have completed.
