You can renew your residence permit for postgraduate studies or for a doctoral degree. The duration of the leave you will receive is increased by half of the total duration of the indicative study program of your School.
If you want to look for a job or set up a business after receiving your degree, you can obtain a residence permit for this reason lasting one (1) year.
You can apply for a residence permit for work or start a business within a period of at least thirty (30) days before the expiration of your student residence permit by submitting the necessary supporting documents which, if they are not available before the expiration of your residence permit, you are given the opportunity to submit within a period of two (2) months.
The application for the renewal of a residence permit can be submitted through the Ministry of Migration and Asylum's website under one of the following categories:
The required supporting documents for the application are as follows:
a) The applicant's higher education degree or a certificate from the host institution confirming the completion of the research activity (for researchers).
b) Proof of full health insurance, covering the same benefits as for nationals.
c) A solemn declaration by the applicant stating the category of residence permit applied for.
d) Details of the applicant's residence address.
e) Proof of fulfillment of tax obligations, if the applicant is required to pay taxes, including the income tax return in Greece.
f) Evidence that the applicant has sufficient financial resources to cover living expenses, which should be at least EUR 650 per month for students, or EUR 900 per month for researchers. A solemn declaration must confirm that this amount will be renewed every month.
When assessing the adequacy of resources, income from grants, scholarships, or a valid employment contract will be considered.
g) An e-paravolo of 150 euros.
After at least three (3) months from the issuance of the residence permit for work or setting up a business, you must prove to the competent agency that you have a real chance of being hired or setting up a business and that the job you are looking for or the business you are going to set up corresponds to the level of studies you have completed.
